Christian Aid

Christian Aid 2021

Christian Aid Week 2026 will take place from 10th to 16th May, focusing on fighting global poverty through fundraising, prayer, and community action.

Overview

Christian Aid Week is an annual event in the United Kingdom where churches, communities, and households come together to support people living in poverty. During this week, participants fundraise, donate, pray, and take action to help communities worldwide gain practical and sustainable solutions to poverty. The week-long campaign encourages people to step out in faith and make a tangible difference in the lives of vulnerable families.

Focus for 2026

This year, Christian Aid Week highlights the challenges of urban poverty in Nairobi, Kenya. Families in informal settlements face daily struggles to feed their children, with many parents earning less than a dollar a day to cover rent, school fees, and basic necessities. Christian Aid, through its local partner Beacon of Hope, supports families like Fridah Moraa’s by providing tools, seeds, and training to grow vegetables in small urban spaces. This initiative helps families secure food for themselves and generate income by selling produce.

How to Get Involved

There are multiple ways to participate in Christian Aid Week 2026:

Fundraising: Organize events, collections (If you have received a Christian Aid donation pouch you can post it at Thrum Hall Methodist Church), or online campaigns to raise money for Christian Aid and its local partners.

Prayer and Worship: Churches can use downloadable resources such as orders of service, daily devotionals, and children’s activity sheets to engage congregations.

Community Action: Advocate for social justice issues, such as debt relief, and support local initiatives that empower communities.

Schools and Education: Use teaching resources, assemblies, and reflective materials to involve students in understanding global poverty and encouraging charitable action.

Impact

Christian Aid Week has a long history of raising awareness and funds for global poverty. In previous years, millions of pounds have been raised to support projects addressing hunger, climate change, education, sanitation, and health. By participating, individuals and communities contribute to long-term change, helping families grow food, build livelihoods, and face the future with dignity.
